Immediately available. Full-time position to lead public, association library serving two towns of 6,500 residents in historic village setting. Supervises six part-time staff and three volunteers. Reports to twelve-member Board of Trustees.

Qualifications: MLS degree preferred, or a substantially equivalent Master’s degree. Two or more years of supervisory and/or administrative experience working in a public library setting. Excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills.

Compensation: Salary range is $38K-$45K, commensurate with demonstrated ability and experience, plus benefits

Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health month at the Library! Shelley Johnston from Dr. David Starkman’s office in Valatie will be here to show the kids the importance of taking care of their teeth. Shelley will also be available to answer any ques- tions parents might have. Kids will get a chance to practice brushing teeth as well as participate in stories, songs and a craft!

Teen Henna Workshop

Teens will get the opportunity to use henna to create temporary designs on the skin. Henna, a plant-based product made from henna tree leaves, is used by many cultures around the world as a form of artistic expression. Henna is not permanent, but it does temporarily stain the skin. Henna will wash or fade from the skin in one to three weeks. This program is free and designed for ages 13 and up.

Afternoon Discoveries: Freedom Quilts

Come with us on a journey to the past as we learn how slaves communicated and shared secret messages about the Underground Railroad. We will read Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt and learn how to create a freedom quilt block of our own.  The event is free and geared for children in Grades 2-5.   Space is limited, please call the library to sign up for this terrific event!

Part murder investigation part romance, this movie follows Dixon Steele, a Hollywood screenwriter, as he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a hat check girl. Steele begins a romance with his pretty, new neighbor who is his biggest defender...until she starts to wonder if he is the man she thought he was. Starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served!

Library Director to Leave Position

The Director of the Kinderhook Memorial Library, Julie Hamrah Johnson, has resigned her position, effective February 20, 2012. She has been with the library for eleven years, the last eight as its Director.

Johnson has been doing freelance project management, information architecture and digital advertising for the past few years, and indicated she will be making it her full-time occupation. She will also remain in the community.
