Saved by the Library

I received this email today and wanted to share.  This is why I love my job:

Ms. Julie Johnson,

The Kinderhook Library saved our bacon (or vacation).

This last Christmas eve we joined our three sons at one of their homes in southern New Jersey. One son had come with his family of four small children from Saranac Lake. His van heater stopped working as he arrived in New Jersey. All repair and auto parts facilities were closed for the four day weekend and he had to drive back to sub-zero temperatures in Saranac on Sunday. What to do?

Neither Saranac, nor the New Jersey public library had access to Chilton's, so I signed on to the Chilton's auto repair database using my Kinderhook library card and we downloaded the heater wiring diagram and dashboard disassembly instructions for a 1997 Chrysler Caravan. With this information we were able to take the dash apart, find the heater blower resistor module, remove it, wire around the internal thermostat which had failed, and send my son into the North Country with heat.

Without my library card from Kinderhook and its access to the Chilton's database he would have been stuck in New Jersey for several more days until he could have gotten it repaired. What a great service you provide.

Didn't know we had Chilton's Repair Manuals online? Click here to access them.
